Budgets
Set spending limits per category and track your progress in real time.
Creating a Budget
Go to the Budget tab and tap +. Choose a category, set an amount, and pick your period:
- Weekly — budget resets every Monday (recommended for most people)
- Monthly — budget resets on the 1st of each month
KineXi creates one budget per category per period. You can have budgets for as many categories as you want.
The 50/30/20 Rule
During onboarding, KineXi suggests budgets based on the 50/30/20 rule:
- 50% Needs — essentials like Food, Transport, Utilities, Health
- 30% Wants — Entertainment, Shopping, Subscriptions, Travel
- 20% Savings — Emergency Fund and other savings goals
These suggestions are a starting point. Edit any budget amount at any time by tapping it and choosing Edit Budget.
Tracking Progress
Each budget card shows a progress bar, the amount spent, and how much remains. The color changes as you approach your limit:
- Green — under 80% spent
- Amber — between 80% and 100% spent
- Red — over budget
Tap any budget card to see which individual transactions contributed to it and the spending trend over previous periods.
Rollover
When rollover is enabled for a budget, any unspent amount carries forward to the next period and adds to your limit. This rewards disciplined weeks by giving you a little extra breathing room.
To enable rollover: tap a budget → Edit Budget → toggle Roll over unused amount.
Rollovers appear as a distinct line in the budget card so you always know what your base limit is versus what carried over.
Alerts
KineXi can notify you when you hit spending milestones within a budget period. Configure alerts per budget from Edit Budget → Alert Settings:
- At 50% of budget used
- At 80% of budget used
- When budget is exceeded
Each alert type can be toggled independently.
Budget Analytics
The Insights tab within Financial Intelligence includes a Budget Performance card that shows how many of your budgets are currently on track, how your spending compares to previous periods, and which categories consistently run over.
