Privacy & Data

Your financial records stay local. You choose when to export or share them.

Privacy Architecture

KineXi is built on a simple principle: your financial records are stored on your device.

All financial data is stored locally on your device using Apple's Core Data framework. This includes:

  • Transactions, accounts, and categories
  • Budgets and savings goals
  • Bills, subscriptions, and recurring rules
  • Notes, journal entries, and checklists
  • Portfolio holdings and alternative investments

KineXi does not keep a server-side copy of your financial records or automatically sync records between devices. Purchases, website analytics, and feedback are separate paths described in the Privacy Policy.

On-Device AI

Supported AI features run on your device using Apple Foundation Models and Apple's NaturalLanguage framework. Apple Intelligence features require a supported device, language, and region, with Apple Intelligence enabled and its models downloaded. Manual tracking remains available without it.

KineXi sanitizes sensitive patterns before supported AI processing. Review generated suggestions before saving; on-device processing does not guarantee that an AI output is correct.

Exporting Your Data

Open More → Settings → Data Management, then choose Export. Review the formats and options shown in the app:

  • CSV — Transactions — date, amount, category, account, note, currency
  • CSV — Budgets — category, limit, period, spent, rollover
  • CSV — Bills — name, amount, frequency, next due date
  • JSON — selected records in a structured file; availability depends on your plan

Exports are shared via the system share sheet — save to Files, AirDrop, or another destination you choose. CSV and JSON exports are readable files; protect them when sharing.

Creating a Restorable Backup

In Data Management, open Manage in the Backups section. Create a backup, or select an existing one, then choose Export.

For a backup you can restore on another device, enable Password Protect and save the .kinexi file somewhere you control. Keep the password safe; support cannot recover it. A CSV or JSON export is separate from a restorable encrypted backup.

You can save the exported backup in your own iCloud Drive. This does not automatically sync financial records between devices.

Importing Data

To restore an encrypted backup, open More → Settings → Data Management → Import. Select the .kinexi backup file from Files and enter its password if prompted. Use a password-protected export when moving a backup to another device, and keep the password somewhere safe.

Review the import preview before confirming. Create a current backup before restoring or importing data, and check the resulting accounts and balances afterward.

Deleting Data

Data Management includes Clear All and Reset actions. Read the confirmation carefully and export a backup first; deleted records cannot be recovered by support.

To delete individual items — transactions, accounts, budgets, goals — swipe left on them in their respective lists and tap Delete.

Deleting the app can remove its local records. Exported files and backups saved outside the app, including copies in iCloud Drive, remain until you delete them separately. Deleting the app does not cancel an App Store subscription.
